The Royal Foundry are an Edmonton-based alternative pop/rock band led by the core songwriting duo and husband and wife team of Jared Salte and Bethany Schumacher. They’ve just released a video for their latest single “WAKEUP WAKEUP”, so caught up with the band to ask a few questions about their sound, their favourite venues, and their desert island albums.

From The Strait: Describe your sound in 5 words or less.

The Royal Foundry: Frenetic, Catchy, Anthemic, Driving, Melodic

FTS: You’ve got a cross-Canada tour coming up – what’s your favourite Canadian city or venue to play?

TRF: We have had some really cool experiences in places that made their space really artsy and fun, which makes our time there all the more fun. But our favourite place to play is always our home. Edmonton has a lot of cool venues that are run by people that love live music, and it reflects that!

FTS: You’ve shared the stage with a lot of great bands. What would be your dream band to headline a show with?

TRF: Ahhhhh, there are so many. We would LOVE to tour with some of the greats like Springsteen, Arcade Fire, The Killers, The 1975….

FTS: It’s the worst game, but we’re playing it! Desert Island Albums – if you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 5 albums with you, what would they be?

TRF: Paul Simon – Graceland, The Beatles – Abby Road, Yes – Fragile, Arcade Fire – Funeral, Radiohead – OK Computer
